We had an informative and fun lesson on Dinosaur Track mapping on our October 19th field trip. Those who came to the location were given an overview of the different aspects of the ways to map Dinosaur tracks including measuring the tracks themselves and the varying distances between tracks to determine the length of stride and pace.

The lesson was conducted at the Cibolo natural area and was a great place to learn about Dinosaur tracks because of the recreation exhibit of a set of real tracks found in Boerne. The set of recreated tracks included a small set of tracks and a larger set of similar tracks believed to be that of an adult caretaker. We measured the tracks using the techniques learned in the class and then compared each teams result to see what we all concluded from the measurements.

Of course our PAST experts have already mapped these tracks and we know what they concluded so it was a great lesson to see how well we did in our measurements and conclusions.

If you missed the class you really missed a great experience. Those who attended the class are ready for some real field studies. If the weather is favorable next year we will have several opportunities to use their new skills. Congratulations to all of this years trackway team members.
